Eagles

I love eagles. They are an absolute wonder to watch. At the river we see them flying over a cove or the open water. We see them perched in a tree. But our great joy is the eagle pair that have made a nest along our road.

They have built that huge nest  in a perfectly straight pine tree. This tree towers above the others and we can view this nest with ease. My husband runs and I walk so we pass this nest often during a nesting season. One of the eagles will be on the nest, its head barely visible and the other will be perched on a limb standing guard. It is a sight to behold.

The eagles have 2 babies most years but one year there were 3! This year we  have 3 babies again. In this season of COVID19 it seems like a gift…maybe even a miracle. You see, the pine tree died last year after the eagles finished raising their babies.

Our hearts were broken.  We were sure the eagles would not return and nest in a dead tree. We walked and ran past that tree with the empty nest knowing for sure they would find a new home. A home where there was life.

Shows what we know. They came back…laid 3 eggs…have 3 babies and we are walking past that eagle home located in a dead place.

And the miracle doesn’t end there. Recently, we had twisters at the river. Our friends and neighbors had trees down on their houses…not far from the eagle nest. We were concerned the dead tree would go down in that big storm….but wouldn’t you just know…it did not!

That dead tree still stands. The babies are in the nest. One eagle still keeps guard on that tree limb. They were preserved even though there was a terrible storm.

I’ve been talking to Father God about the wonder of it. I think He had a lesson for me. If He can care for a pair of eagles and their young in a dead place through a terrible storm He probably can preserve us through this COVID19 storm. It might look like a dead place where we live…but with Him in our “nest” with us…we are safe…He can even bring new life in that place if He decides to….

I appreciate my walk with Him…you never know what you will find on your walk….or how He might use it as an object lesson for your life….
