Faith and Trust

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust and Faith. Are they the same or is there a difference?

Faith. Complete confidence in someone or something. Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

Trust. Assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.

I hold tight to my faith in God, Yeshua, and Holy Spirit…the triune God. I am convinced in my heart, mind, and soul that He is. That is, He exists in this world and the world to come that the reality of YHWH is the Truth. All my hope in this world and the next lies in Him alone.

So where does trust come in? Are not faith and trust one and the same? For me, No…an emphatic No.

I can believe that someone is able to do something, in this case, our Abba God. But I might not believe He will do it for me or with me. I can pray for others to be healed of incurable diseases and know for certain my Abba can bring healing. It is, however, totally different to trust that He will take my disease away. To stand up and walk because He said I could when I haven’t walked in 20 years. Or as in Peter’s case, to get out of the boat and walk on water.

This is the difference for me between faith and trust. I can know something to be true, but when I step out and my action validates my belief that is trust. Like Peter, to get out of a boat and walk on water, not only did he believe, he did it. Not long for sure. But he tried.

So faith plus action equals trust for me. What are your thoughts?
