Living Water Workable Soil
The garden is my schoolroom. It seems to be the place God speaks to my heart. I learn best seeing a good visual and then doing what I’ve seen. Maybe that’s one reason the garden is a place I can hear God.
In our garden, seeds have come up. The small plants we have set out appear strong and healthy. They are growing by leaps and bounds. It is amazing what rain, warm temperatures, and sunshine can accomplish. The weeds are growing too, making a full assault in the garden. They look determined to overtake the vegetables.
But we are fighting back with the Mantis tiller and a good hoe.
There was a rainstorm that came through on Wednesday last week. The garden was well watered. The ground was so wet that it was Saturday before I tried to get back and hoe and till.
I was so amazed that the ground was perfect. There was the exact amount of moisture needed in the soil…not too wet…not too dry. The hoe cut through the dirt with ease. As the soil turned, the roots of weeds were exposed. A small amount of time in the hot sun and those weeds would be dead.
As I thought about this good soil, Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well in John 4 came to mind. Jesus tells her He has living water that if one drinks, they will never thirst again. “Everyone who drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of living water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14 NASB)
As I looked at the soil and watched the hoe doing its work, the Lord just spoke to my heart. Perhaps if we drank this living water that Jesus provides for us, the soil of our heart would be like the soil in my garden that morning. It would be soft and pliable. The teaching from God’s Word would fall on “good ground”. The soil of our hearts prepared to receive what He has for us. Our spiritual thirst would be quenched. That living water springing up to eternal life.
If “weeds or grass” have begun to grow in the garden of our heart, how easily they are removed if the soil of our heart is well watered by God’s Word. However, if we neglect the Word and prayer, the soil of our heart hardens. The hard soil is difficult to cultivate. Taking out weeds damages the plants growing in the garden.
I do not like hard soil in the garden.
Why then, do I allow “hard soil” in my heart?
Weeds…..the sins of our heart ❤!
Always add in my prayers; please Lord don’t let my heart harden y need your word to come and feed me help me rid of those weeds that like to cling on. I have always liked to go to my daughters and in the late afternoon hours pull some weeds. I used to get up early and clean the yard of weeds and all kind of foliage that was not good. Maybe I take like my father who loved to plant even though we lived in town and the vegetable garden wasn’t that big.
