Pay It Forward
It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And Jesus crying out with a loud voice said, “Father into Your hands I commit my spirit.” Luke 23:44-46
Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30
Our daughter Stephanie was in line at Starbucks a while back, (could have been a couple of years the way time slips past us). She looked in her rear-view mirror and there she saw Luke and Logan. Luke is our grandson, our son, Rob’s oldest child. They were happy…in their own world and didn’t see Stephie up ahead.
She decided to give them a surprise and pay for their order. It is such a sweet act of kindness…So when they got to the window and there was no charge, they asked who paid. It was Aunt Stephanie. They were so surprised. A family member they didn’t even know was around, had seen them and decided to bless them.
It’s like that for us. We are trudging through life or walking with joy. Then out of nowhere an unexpected blessing shows up. Sometimes we don’t even know where it comes from. We only know that someone, somewhere, decided we needed a blessing.
When I think of Yeshua’s finished work on the cross, it’s sort of like that. He has already “paid it forward” for us. He bought and paid for our salvation those years ago on the cross. Then He made sure that all the principalities and powers knew our debt had been paid by rising from the dead. When our turn to live on this earth arrived, He had already took the wrath of God for us and paid a debt we could never pay. Truly the ultimate “pay it forward”.
Have a joyous Resurrection Day.
