A Storm

I don’t think I will ever recover from the beauty of daffodils. They are so happy…colorful…appear delicate…but they are anything but delicate.

We had an ice storm this past weekend. The temperatures were very low. Dangerously low.

Since then, morning temperatures have been as low as 12 degrees. But those daffodils…I don’t think they know.

They have peeked up out of the frozen ground. They keep growing. Pushing to stand and bloom. Some even have flower heads forming. The buds don’t seem to know it’s too cold to bloom.

There is another storm predicted for this weekend. This time they are predicting snow. The daffodils don’t know. They are still growing…they are still forming buds.

The storm of ice…of snow…frigid temperatures… don’t seem to matter.  They keep preparing for the time storms pass, then spring explodes. They don’t worry that the storm won’t end. They are not concerned that spring isn’t coming. It is in their DNA to grow in the hard, cold winter storms.

Sometimes they are in full bloom, the ice shows up, covers them, they fall over. But the ice melts…warmer days come…they stand up and keep being a daffodil.

Isn’t that a picture for us as believers? Aren’t we a daffodil? Can’t we be knocked down…wounded…ridiculed…covered with pain…but then stand back up? Be kings and priests of the Most High He declares us to be? Behave like the redeemed, forgiven, and lavished with grace children He declares us to be?

We can. We can’t look around at the storm. We can’t listen to the sound of the wind. We can’t think the cold is too frigid.

We have to look to Him. We can’t take our eyes away. It’s too easy to become fearful looking around at the storm. Hold on. Stand firm. Storms don’t last forever. Winter doesn’t last forever. Keep growing. The time to bloom is near.

Much love.
