Harvest Thanksgiving
October eased into being…
Leaves falling just a little…some changing colors.
Tomatoes are canned and in the pantry, green beans too.
Corn, lima beans, peas, okra in the freezer.
Pumpkins, gourds, acorn squash, butternut squash in the fields.
Freshly planted collards, mustard greens, turnip greens…
All these gifts of provision.
Orchards have trees heavy with apples.
Pears fill trees… some are on the ground.
Vineyards have clusters of grapes bursting with color and flavor
Temperatures begin to drop. Cool evenings begin.
Decorations for fall and winter holidays appear in the stores.
The end of another year appears on the horizon.
Men are on their four-wheelers headed out to hunt.
Shots are heard. A family has meat for the winter.
Combines and hay balers are traveling from field to field.
Large clouds of dust rise as they cut soy beans.
Squirrels are hiding away nuts for the winter.
They run the length of the tree limbs at great speed…searching.
Nature is preparing for the sleep of winter.
Seems I make these lists in my head…record them in journals. Recording life, especially our Father’s provision and His gifts makes my heart turn to a place of joy. That once again, He has brought us through another yearly cycle. There have been hardships, joy, sickness, heartbreak, healing…but through it all, He has once again…been faithful…been good…walked with us…
I’m starting now with giving thanks. When Thanksgiving Day arrives, I want to be full up. Full up of thanks.
Want to count our blessings together?
