Hezekiah

“Now it came about in the third year of Hoshea, the son of Elah, king of Israel that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah, became king.

He was 25 years old when he became  king and he reigned 29 years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.

And he did right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father David had done. 2 Kings 18:1-3 NASB

And with verse 3 of chapter 18 we begin to find a list of all Hezekiah has done.

He did right in the eyes of the LORD. Vs3

He removed the high places. Vs4

Broke down the sacred pillars. Vs4

Cut down the Asherah Vs4

Broke into pieces the bronze serpent Moses had made. Vs4

He trusted in the LORD. Vs5

He clung to the LORD.Vs6

He did not depart from following Him. Vs6

He kept all the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses. Vs6

Then verse 7 says; “And the LORD was with him; wherever he went, he prospered.” 2 Kings 18:7 NASB

And the list continues…

He defeated the Philistines.

Hezekiah gave the king of Assyria silver and gold in an attempt to negotiate peace.

When that fails and Rabshakeh makes more demands…Hezekiah tears his clothes, covers himself with sackcloth and enters the house of the LORD.

He sends his servants to Isaiah.

He went up to the house of the LORD.

He spread the letters out before the LORD.

Hezekiah prayed.

Then God answers through Isaiah.

When Hezekiah became mortally ill, Isaiah came to him and said to get his affairs in order for he was going to die. Again Hezekiah “does”.

He turned his face to the wall.

Hezekiah prayed to the LORD.

Hezekiah wept bitterly.

So before Isaiah could get out of the middle court, God answers Hezekiah’s prayer. Isaiah returns to tell Hezekiah he will live.

I’m always asking myself , “What does a life well lived look like?” “What does a life lived out with our God look like?”

Reading Hezekiah’s life story again, I thought when I made this list, maybe a well lived life with the Father looks something like Hezekiah’s life.

No dilly dallying around wondering…but knowing God’s principles…being certain of our God’s heart…and the “Hezekiah thing”…acting on what we know to be true.
