Do You Know Who You Are?

So many of us spend much of our lives trying to answer this question. “What do I really know about who I am? Really. We think we know. I’m a husband/wife. A father/mother. A brother/sister. A teacher…a politician…a doctor…an attorney…a pastor…But do these roles actually define us? Is this how God sees us?

Think about this.

Mary is a betrothed teenager…poor…yet the angel Gabriel who stands in the Presence of God calls her “highly favored”.

Gideon is threshing wheat in a wine press hiding from the Midianites when the angel calls him a “valiant warrior”.

Abram is 99 years old in Genesis 17 when God tells him he will have a son and not only that, God is changing his name to Abraham meaning “father of many nations.”

Saul has been anointed by Samuel and knows he will be king in 1 Samuel 10, yet when it comes time for the public announcement, Saul is hiding among the baggage. This is the leader of Israel?

The prophet Amos is a farmer…a shepherd…how can he be a prophet?

Hosea is instructed to marry a prostitute. How can that possibly make him a prophet people will listen to?

And Yeshua. A carpenter’s son? From Nazareth? The poorest most look down upon town? He is Messiah?

But I know you see where we are heading. Our Abba God. The true and living God. The ruler of the Universe. He is who declares who we are. He is the one who gives us identity. It absolutely does not matter how circumstances appear. His Word always stands. His Word is always true.

Look to our dear Father to define you. Do not listen to voices of this age. Read His Word…He will speak. You can know who you are…first and foremost…you are His.
