A Candle Not Burning
Flowers were created to bloom. Birds were made to fly. Fish should be in the water swimming. Candles are dark until the match is taken to them.
These are minor observances. Obvious to all. At first glance, perhaps insignificant…But my heart hurt at the realization that when something or someone doesn’t do what they are created to do, how sad that is.
An apple tree that never blooms or bears an apple will be cut down. An orchid that never blooms is discarded. A fish out of water dies. A bird that can’t or won’t fly is quickly devoured. When a plant, an animal, or a person doesn’t do what they are created to do…there is loss or disaster.
The same principle applies to our spiritual life. When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are a new creation. We should not be living as we did before. We are to bring Him glory. Do good works that glorify Him. We are not our own. Yet we shrink back. We excuse ourselves from serving others. We don’t proclaim the Gospel. We refuse to speak up against injustice.
We are candles not burning. We are not allowing the world to see His Light in us.
It isn’t always true for us. Sometimes we serve till exhaustion. Sometimes we tell others about our Yeshua and are verbally attacked. Sometimes. Sometimes.
I don’t want to be a “sometimes” Christian. My life goal is to be consistent and steadfast. I don’t want others to see my life and think how sad it is I haven’t lived the life Abba God created me to live. My heart desires to live for Him and bring Him glory.
As long as I live this life, I probably won’t get it right…not always.
But when my light goes out, I’m going to keep asking Him to light His candle in me again…
Amen, this was what I read yesterday and yes I too want to be a burning light for my God and those around me!
This is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful and meaningful posts you have published. I love it! And I lve you, too!
