Moses

Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a daughter of Levi,
And the woman conceived and bore a son and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months.
But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it, and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.
And his sister stood at a distance to find out what would happen to him.” Exodus 2:1-4 NASB

What a horrific decree for a ruler to declare. When I stop and think about it, this was not one family that was losing a son…EVERY family had to destroy their newborn sons. Just think. In a family, a church, or a small community the pain and hurt, the loss and grief at the senseless tragic death of a newborn. Multiply that by every family that had a baby son…not one would be allowed to live. The magnitude of grief and loss is beyond my understanding.

When we read the story of Moses being drawn out of the water, we fail to remember all those babies that were not saved. The focus is on the deliverance of the child that would become the man Abba God would use to deliver Israel out of Egyptian bondage.

“Now it came about in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God.
So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.
And God saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice of them.” Exodus 2:23-25 NASB

I love when scripture says, “and God remembered”. Because when scripture says that, our Abba God is getting ready to do something BIG! Deliverance is coming.

The Israelites had grieved deeply over the babies that had been lost. Their cries of anguish had reached Heaven. Not only had they lost babies, but now they were groaning under the hard labor in the mud pits to make bricks. The mud pits were horrible places to work. Nasty…hot…a man always deep in the mud…mobility slowed…

But God had a plan. All this hard labor created a generation of men who were physically fit. Men would be able to live in the wilderness God would take them into. So the harsh circumstances while horrible, were a preparation.

I’ve thought about this for a couple of years. I had to teach a Bible Study about these scriptures and Abba highlighted the killing of the children. I had never considered all the others who were lost. In all these horrible circumstances our Abba saw and He remembered. He would deliver. He would save. He would dispense justice.

I’m reminded once again I do not need to worry or strive at injustice. My God sees. My God hears. He is patient and wishes everyone to come to repentance but there is a place and time when He will act. He will deliver His children.
His great love will move on behalf of His children.
