Protection
We had a storm. There was an average amount of rain but there was a great deal of wind. This storm came on the heels of several others so the ground was saturated.
Baxter and I were sitting in the house a night or so later and we heard a crash. The house shook. It was about 9:00pm. We didn’t know if someone was breaking in or if there had been
another wreck at the corner stop sign.
Baxter went outside to check. No wreck. So he headed down toward the little barn to check the goats and donkey. There it was. A huge tree had toppled over. It had fallen between our storage building and an old chicken coup.
The tree did not hit our building. The tree did not hit that old coup. It did not fall on the truck parked close by. In fact when you examined how that tree fell perfectly without hitting anything of importance, perfectly placed only a foot or so from the building…you just had to marvel. For sure we could not have cut that tree and it fall any better.
When we talked later, I realized it had only been an hour or so before that I had been outside taking the dogs out. We had stood under that tree with no concern. There was a sure danger I had no knowledge of.
I had been talking to Abba God about His provision and His protection. When you get to a certain age, you do wonder how He will bring you through whatever might be ahead. It was as if that tree was to teach me that He is protecting me. That He always has us covered with His feathers. (Psalm 91). That His angels will bear us up.( Psalm 91) Even though we might not perceive a danger, He is there standing between us and that danger. And I believe that if that old tree had fallen on me, He would have been there to walk me into Eternity. Still walking with me.
Now I know this…that He always protects. You know this. After all the goodness and mercy He has shown me, I am ashamed to admit my questions. But I confess, as I walk this life I get so distracted, I constantly need to be reminded of the most basic things. How grateful I am that Abba is so patient, so loving, so kind, that He would drop an old tree just to remind me.
What a great reminder, to know that God has us. A tornado went through Lexie’s building Monday. Close enough to terrify but, just far enough not to hit her house head on. God’s mercy!! 💗
He’s always at our side there to love and protect us. We have peace because we’re aware of this.
