Life is in the Blood

Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7 NASB

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement. Leviticus 17:11 NASB

And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. Hebrews 9:22 NASB

About the time our children were in middle school, these scriptures took on a deeper meaning for me. Our mothers had passed away just eleven months apart and I was thinking so much about what it was that took life away.

We know that if one loses their blood volume, life ends. Or if one cannot get air, life ends. But Holy Spirit led me on a walk to understand clearly.

When Father God breathed into man, they received life. Thinking about that, I considered how the air we take in goes into our lungs. It moves through the trachea and branches into the bronchi…it keeps moving through the lungs until it reaches the alveoli where the exchange of gases occurs. Oxygen moves into the blood. The blood then carries life to every cell in the body then carbon dioxide arrives back in the lungs to be removed from the body.

How miraculous! The breath of life moves through the lungs, is transferred into the blood, and life is given to the person.

As I considered all these things, truly “the life” is in the blood. This life-giving breath is carried by the blood to sustain the body. Blood with no oxygen carries no life.

Ponder again…God breathed life into mankind. The blood within us carries that God-given life-breath to every part of the body. I have no words…
